Types of Racks
|
There are many types of racks available today. We will look at 5 general types.
1. Server Type: The server type racks typically are 600 mm wide and at least 800 mm deep. These racks will contain a high concentration of servers and support equipment.New servers on the market are pushing the depth to 900 and up to 1000 mm deep and beyond. Normal heights are 42U and up for large applications.
Server racks can be configured with a range of equipment, such as UPS, server, PABX, amplifier and basic network equipment for small office use. Data centers, ISP, ASP's are big users of server racks.
2. Telecommunications Type: These racks are commonly 800 mm wide and 800 to 900 mm deep. These racks are 800 mm wide because they will house more cable and wires than server racks. The extra depth will come if the user is installing deep servers into the rack.
The width of 800 mm allows for the cables to be channeled along the sides of the rack. The routers and bridges have their cables connected in the front and these cables must be organized and guided to the base (or top) of the rack and then to the connection point. Telco's are big users of these racks.
3. Network Racks: Network racks are very similar to Server and Telco racks, but are not so deep. The standard depth is 600 mm. Network racks typically contain cable connection and routing equipment. All NetWorkCenter units include Vertical Cable Management. Standard color is HiTech Grey (steel) and Grey Nebula (laminate).
Sample Configurations illustrate some of the flexibility of the NetWorkCenter. The equipment can be mounted further back from the front of the rack to allow for cables to pass and the equipment itself is not so deep, therefore the 600 mm depth is more than enough for cable management in the rear of the rack.
We can work with you on a design that would meet your equipment and budget requirements. All sample configurations are also available in 72" heights. Multiple NetWorkCenter systems can be grouped together to form long runs, "L," "U," and other configurations.
4. Open Racks: These racks are specifically designed for cable management. These racks must have various cable management accessories and are very simple in construction. They do not have tops, sides or doors, so security is not a concern. Open racks will normally follow the standards for equipment mounting and universal spacing.
These are used in communication centers, laboratories, schools and many small offices where cost is a prime concern.
5. Industrial Racks: Factory automation and control equipment as well as purpose built electronics will normally be housed in a somewhat customized rack. They differ from 19¡± racks in they are not necessarily following the international standards and may also include many other features not found on standard racks.
These racks are used in industrial settings, factories, refineries etc.Frequently these racks will be sealed to prevent dust, moisture and sometimes electro-magnetic radiation (EMI) from entering. They would not normally be found in an office or datacenter environment.
You are welcome to choose from our broad selection of server racks. |
